day fifteen
(tell us about something you feel strongly about)
gay rights. why? because i dont believe that some people were born more equal than others. this means that everyone is equal, and as such, should have equal rights. i just cant understand why some people are so backwards and cant get this concept through their thick, useless skulls. blah blah blah religion. religion is fine, i get that some people want to believe in something, because its nice being able to blame all your problems, woes, and miseries on some higher power who is punishing you for no reason at all (ironic how your triumphs, however, are all your doing and not gods). but when you take it so far that you impede progress, understanding, equality, and freedom for other people, then enough is enough.
or maybe you just dont approve because you dont understand since youre not gay. well thats fine, you dont need to understand. no one is asking you to understand what its like to be gay, theyre just asking for equality and acceptance. im sure they dont quite understand what its like to be straight, but do they care? no, they accept you as you are. it works both ways. true life: gay people are a lot more fun than you probably are anyway.
it makes me incredibly sad that people can be so close minded. honestly, i dont even know why people make such a big deal out of not allowing gay people to marry. marriage is cool, its something i believe in, when two people love each other so much that they cant imagine the rest of their lives without someone, and dont want to. yeah, its a piece of paper, but it means something. or at least, its supposed to. i love how people protect the idea of sanctity of marriage (for straight couples), when straight couples dont even take it seriously. example one: kim kardashian and kris humphries (this whole fiasco annoys me for another reason btw: america, the land that wastes EVERYTHING, including about 10million dollars for a wedding that lasted 72 days). despite your religious tendencies, and lack of understanding, you can at least concede that marriage isnt even sacred to a lot of people anymore, and as such, there is no point in disallowing gay people the right to marry.
